Institute Presentation
The Stroke Unit is part of the Neurology Unit, at the 
University Hospital "Sant’Andrea". The Stroke and Neurology Units belong to the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, Department of Neuroscience, Mental Health and Sensory Organs (NESMOS).
The Unità di Trattamento neurovascolare (UTN) is an acute Stroke Unit located in the Emergency Department of the Hospital Policlinico Umberto I in Sapienza University of Rome. Its is an 8 monitored bed unit which admit acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes and TIAs with ABCD2 score > 3. The UTN is very active in i.v thormbolysis and endovascular treatments (when indicated), and has a collaboration with vascular surgeons for early endarterectomy and with neurosurgeons for decompressive craniotomy. The UTN has participated and participates to many national and international trials of acute treatments and of secondary prevention and to registries (among which ECASS, ECASS II, ECASS III, DIAS 4, IRIS; SITS-ISTR and many others).
